Esophageal Manometry

What is the Esophagus?

The esophagus is an organ that plays a key role in digestion. When you swallow, your esophagus contracts and pushes food into your stomach. Often patients have a malfunction in this process which may interrupt the digestive process. Esophageal manometry is a 30–40-minute test used to evaluate the motility and muscle contractions of the esophagus and also evaluate the function of the esophagogastric junction. Arkansas Manometry uses the Chicago Classification version 4.0 to help make the diagnosis of esophageal motility disorders.
